Rough machining

Use CNC vertical lathe to rough turn the gear ring blank, process the outer circle, inner hole, and end face, leave machining allowance, lay the foundation for subsequent processes, and roughly mill the tooth shape to remove most of the allowance. ​

 

Heat treatment

Perform quenching and tempering treatment, heat to 840-860℃ quenching, and temper at 580-620℃ to give the gear ring good comprehensive mechanical properties and enhance the hardness of the tooth surface and the toughness of the core. ​

 

Finishing

Fine turning the outer circle, inner hole, and end face to achieve the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness required by the drawing; use a hobbing machine or a gear shaping machine to fine mill the tooth shape, strictly control the tooth shape and tooth direction errors, and ensure the meshing accuracy; grind or polish the tooth surface to reduce the surface roughness and improve the transmission stability.

 

Gear milling

 

The large ring gear for ball mills are mostly cast steel split components, characterized by large dimensions, high module, and high residual stress. Machining utilizes floor-type boring machines and large gantry milling machines as core equipment, supplemented by gear hobbing machines for finishing. The blank undergoes aging treatment to eliminate internal stress, followed by roughing and finishing of the inner and outer diameters, end faces, and mating surfaces. A layered, segmented, symmetrical gear milling method is employed, suitable for conditions with large tooth depths and large cutting allowances. Heavy-duty carbide tools are selected to reduce cutting vibration and thermal deformation. Floor-type boring machines and gantry milling machines offer large strokes and high rigidity, meeting the requirements for clamping and forming milling of ultra-large diameter gear rings. Gear hobbing machines are used for subsequent tooth profile finishing, correcting tooth direction and pitch errors. After machining, deburring and flaw detection are performed to ensure heavy-load meshing accuracy and operational reliability.
