Products Description

The ball mill trunnion is a key component, located at both ends of the cylinder, and plays a supporting and transmission role. The material is mostly cast steel, which needs to have high strength and wear resistance. There is a channel inside it to allow materials and media to enter and exit, and it is connected to the bearing seat outside. Coaxiality must be ensured during installation, otherwise it will affect the stability and service life of the equipment. It is common in powder grinding operations in mining, building materials and other fields.

Materials

The ball mill trunnion usually uses the following materials:

Cast steel (such as ZG270-500)

It has high strength and wear resistance and can withstand alternating loads and wear during the operation of ball mill.

It has good processability and is easy to cast complex shapes.

Forged steel (such as 45 steel, 42CrMo)

After forging process, the internal structure is dense, the strength and toughness are higher, and it is suitable for high load conditions.

The performance can be further improved by heat treatment such as quenching and tempering, surface quenching, etc.

The processing technology of hollow shaft is complicated, and the dimensional accuracy and surface quality must be guaranteed. The typical processing steps are as follows:

1. Blank preparation

Casting or forging

Steel casting: Sand casting is adopted, and annealing treatment is carried out after pouring to eliminate casting stress.

Forged steel parts: Formed by free forging or die forging, and normalized or annealed after forging to improve cutting performance.

2. Rough machining

Turning

Based on the outer circle and end face of the blank, the shaft neck, flange outer circle and end face at both ends are roughly turned, leaving enough machining allowance (generally 3-5mm).

Machining the center hole provides a positioning reference for subsequent processing.

Drilling

The inner hole of the hollow shaft is processed (if it is a hollow structure), and the deep hole drilling process is adopted to ensure the straightness and surface roughness of the hole.

3. Heat treatment

Quenching and tempering (for forged steel parts)

Heat to 840-860℃ for quenching, and then temper at 550-600℃ to give the material good comprehensive mechanical properties (strength, toughness, wear resistance).

Surface quenching (optional)

Perform high-frequency induction quenching on wear parts such as journals to increase surface hardness (generally up to HRC45-55) and extend service life.

4. Finishing

Turning/grinding

Based on the center hole or processed journal, finish turning flanges, shoulders, sealing grooves and other structures to ensure dimensional accuracy (such as journal tolerance grade IT6-IT7).

Grinding the journal surface with a grinder, and the surface roughness is controlled at Ra0.8-1.6μm to ensure good fit with the bearing.

Milling/boring

Process the bolt holes, keyways and other structures on the flange to ensure position accuracy and symmetry.

5. Nondestructive testing

Ultrasonic testing: Check whether there are cracks, pores, slag inclusions and other defects inside.

Magnetic particle testing: Check surface and near-surface cracks to ensure that parts are safe and reliable.

6. Assembly and debugging

Assemble the processed hollow shaft with the cylinder, bearing and other components, adjust the coaxiality and installation accuracy, and ensure that the ball mill rotates smoothly and without abnormal vibration during operation.
