Rectangular spline shafts are used in a wide range of applications such as aircraft, automobiles, tractors, machine tool manufacturing, agricultural machinery and general mechanical transmissions.

Its characteristics: multi-tooth work, high carrying capacity, good neutrality, good orientation, shallow tooth roots, low stress concentration, small weakening of shaft and hub strength, easy processing, and high precision with grinding methods. There are two series in the standard (light series and medium series).

Spline Processing Methods: There are many ways to process spline shafts. The main methods are cutting methods such as hobbing, milling and grinding, and plastic deformation methods such as cold tapping and cold rolling.

 1、Rotating method: Using spline hob in the spline shaft milling machine or hobbing machine according to generative processing, this method has high productivity and accuracy, suitable for mass production.

2. Milling method: In the universal milling machine, a special forming cutter is used to directly mill the profile between the teeth, and the teeth are milled by the dividing head by tooth; if no forming cutter is used, two milling cutters can be used to simultaneously mill one tooth. On both sides, mill by tooth and then use a disk cutter to trim the bottom diameter slightly. The productivity and precision of the milling method are low, and it is mainly used to process the spline shaft with outer diameter centering and the rough machining before hardening in a single small batch production.

3. Grinding method: Grinding the spline tooth side and bottom diameter on a spline shaft grinding machine with a forming wheel is suitable for processing a hardened spline shaft or a spline with a higher precision, especially an inner diameter centering axis.

4, cold play: on a special machine. Two heads symmetrically arranged on the outside of the circumference of the workpiece, with the rotation of the workpiece indexing and the axial feed at a constant speed ratio for high-speed rotation, the workpiece rotates one tooth per turn, and the forming wheel on the head forms a groove on the workpiece Hammering 1 times, under the continuous hammering of the high-speed, high-energy motion of the driving wheel, the surface of the workpiece is plastically deformed into a spline. The precision of cold tapping is between milling and grinding, and the efficiency is about 5 times higher than milling. Cold tapping also improves material utilization.
