Materials and casting/forging
The end covers for the ball mill are made of ZG45, ZG35CrMo, 42CrMo, 45# steel, etc., mainly cast steel parts, and large heavy-duty end caps are made of forged steel. The cast steel parts are made by melting scrap steel with alloy materials in a medium frequency furnace, and the forgings are made of round steel ingots or square billets. The castings are made according to the process of molding, pouring, sand removal, sand removal riser cleaning and preliminary correction. The forgings are completed by heating, forging and shaping and trimming. The basic shape of the end cap is obtained by casting or forging, eliminating internal porosity and improving the density of the material.
Heat treatment/blank inspection
Heat treatment is the core process. For cast steel parts, normalizing and tempering are used to refine the grains, eliminate stress and improve toughness. For alloy forgings, tempering and quenching followed by high-temperature tempering are used to ensure that the strength, hardness and toughness are matched and to prevent cracking and deformation. The blank inspection of the end over mainly checks for appearance cracks, pores, sand holes and flash defects. Non-destructive testing is carried out by UT ultrasonic testing and MT magnetic particle testing. HB Brinell hardness is checked by sampling, and the blank allowance and shape and position dimensions are roughly checked.
CNC machining
CNC machining is a key process. First, rough machining is performed by turning and milling to remove large excess material and leave room for finishing. Then, semi-finishing is performed to correct the datum and machine the stop, flange face and bolt hole positions. Subsequently, CNC vertical or horizontal lathes are used to finish machine the end face, outer circle, inner stop and bearing position. CNC boring machine or machining center is used to finish machine the bolt hole, positioning hole and reaming hole. Finally, roundness, coaxiality, flatness, perpendicularity and hole spacing tolerance are strictly controlled.
