Concept of tooth profile 2
Let's continue to routine the concept of tooth profile.
Then we have to think about how the rectangular-toothed gear transmits rotational motion?
If the thickness of the rectangular tooth and the tooth groove are the same size, it will be as shown in P1 and cannot be meshed. Therefore, the gears must be able to operate normally and mesh. It is necessary to think of the P2 picture like this, and make the tooth thickness smaller.

The A tooth is in contact at point a, the B tooth is in contact with the entire surface, and the C tooth is in contact at point c. In this way, the matched gears can operate normally. Because point a and point c are the same gear, their distances from the center are different. Therefore, their peripheral speeds are also different. Point c is fast, while point a is slow. In this case, no matter which speed is used for the paired gear, it does not matter.
