how to choose castings and forgings when you are ready to produce gears

As we know. Some of the gears are made of cast steel and some are forged. So when we are gear processing, how to choose the material of the gear, choose the steel casting, or forged parts?

The gear is the transmission component inside the machine equipment, which plays a very important role. If the transmission gear is damaged, the whole machine equipment will stop. When the damaged gear is replaced, the machine equipment can operate normally. It is a wearing part, and the longer the service life, the better. Otherwise, the frequent replacement of the gear will affect the production process and the maintenance cost will be greatly improved. In order to have a long service life, we must choose materials with high wear resistance, impact resistance and high strength to manufacture key transmission parts. Due to the high speed of the pinion gear in the gear transmission system, the service life of the pinion gear is relatively short and small. The material of the gear should be selected a little better. If the speed of the large gear is low, there is no need to choose a better material, otherwise the gear processing cost will be greatly improved. The material of the pinion is generally better than that of the cast steel. Because the forged part is dense, the hardness and wear resistance are better than the cast steel. It is also forged. The special gear steel is better than the general steel, for example, forging 40Cr. It has a longer service life than forged 45# steel, of course, this is the case where the manufacturing precision of both gears is the same. If we don't want to change the pinion frequently, we need to choose a special gear steel, so the gear processing cost will increase a little, but the service life will increase significantly.
