Big spur gear processing generally starts with cutting to obtain a blank;

Common materials of gear

1. Steel gears
Steel gears are one of the most commonly used gear materials, with the main features of high strength, good wear resistance, high hardness and good machinability. Depending on the working conditions, the type of steel used is also different. For example, gears made of low carbon steel are suitable for low speed and light load conditions, while high-strength steel is suitable for high speed and heavy load conditions. In addition, gears that have been carburized or surface hardened can increase their service life.

2. Cast iron gears
Cast iron gears are also one of the commonly used gear materials, mainly divided into gray cast iron and ductile iron. Gray cast iron gears have low manufacturing process costs, are easy to process, and have good shock absorption performance, but their strength, hardness and wear resistance are not as good as steel gears. Ductile iron gears are worse than gray cast iron gears in strength, hardness, wear resistance, etc., but the cost is relatively high.

3. Copper alloy gears
Copper alloy gears are a gear material with high wear resistance and strength. The high hardness, wear resistance and thermal conductivity of copper alloys make them suitable for use in high speed and heavy load conditions, and they have high corrosion resistance and low friction coefficient. Among them, copper-tin-phosphorus alloy gears are the most commonly used copper alloy gears and can be used for high-speed and high-load helical gears.
