The machining of large segmented gear rings is based on forging. First, high-strength alloy steel ingots are forged. High-temperature forging densifies the metal structure, improving the overall strength and toughness of the gear ring and laying a solid material foundation for subsequent machining. After forging, the mating surfaces of the segmented gear rings are milled to precisely ensure the flatness and roughness of the mating surfaces, ensuring the fitting accuracy when each segment is joined. Then, a heat treatment is performed, refining the grains through quenching and high-temperature tempering, giving the gear ring uniform comprehensive mechanical properties.
After heat treatment, the gear ring enters the turning stage. A large CNC lathe is used to precision turn the inner hole, outer circle, and end face of the gear ring, strictly controlling dimensional and geometric tolerances to ensure the accuracy of the reference surface. Next, depending on the gear ring specifications and precision requirements, milling or hobbing is selected to machine the tooth profile. Hobbing is suitable for high-precision tooth profile machining, ensuring uniform tooth pitch, while milling is suitable for machining complex tooth profiles or large-module gear rings, efficiently completing the tooth profile shaping.
After the tooth profile is machined, the tooth surface undergoes surface hardening treatment. High-frequency induction heating is used to achieve high hardness and wear resistance on the tooth surface, while retaining the toughness of the tooth core to prevent tooth surface wear or cracking during use. Finally, drilling is performed to drill connecting holes at the flange of the gear ring, ensuring that the hole diameter and position accuracy meet assembly requirements. All processes are closely connected to ultimately form a large segmented gear ring that meets the usage requirements.

They are used for heat treatment of materials in rotary kilns in cement, lime production and mineral processing; to drive the rotation of rollers to grind materials in ball mills and tube mills in the mining industry; to drive rollers to press sugarcane to extract juice in sugar mills; to adapt to paper drying and pulp processing equipment in paper mills; to assist the rotation of equipment such as steel ladles and furnaces in steel mills; and can also be used for chemical mixing and stirring in large rotating containers in chemical plants.
