Q1: Why are small gantry machines built with monolithic HT300 castings (beam-columns integrated), while large-size gantries use separate cast columns and beam?

A: For small gantries, casting weight and dimension are manageable. Monolithic structure eliminates joint surfaces for higher rigidity and less assembly error. For large-size gantries, monolithic casting suffers uneven wall-thickness and inconsistent cooling/shrinkage, leading to severe stress and distortion. Split castings allow full stress-relief annealing. Rigidity is restored by scraped joint surfaces and high-strength bolt preload.

Q2: Is monolithic casting always stiffer than bolt-split construction?

A: Under ideal conditions monolithic castings have better inherent rigidity. However, oversized monolithic castings retain huge internal stress and deform gradually in service. Well-executed split design can achieve comparable joint stiffness.

Q3: Will split-joint surfaces slip or loosen during cutting?

A: Properly designed split structures avoid slip. High-contact-ratio scraped surfaces, locating pins and adequately pre-tensioned high-strength bolts resist cutting-force induced micro-slip.

A: Extra costs come from joint-face machining/scraping, fasteners and alignment work. Meanwhile it reduces casting reject rate and eases heat treatment, machining, lifting and transportation. Total cost remains practical.
