At the Hannover Messe, igus in Germany exhibited a new type of iglidur G1, a non-lubricated and maintenance-free plastic bearing material. Compared with the pre-upgrade iglidur G, the new all-round bearing doubles its service life at the same price.
This new lubrication-free, maintenance-free friction-optimized engineering plastic material has higher heat resistance and lower moisture absorption and better friction and wear properties, and its price is almost the same as the original.
The iglidur G material debuted in 1983 and is available worldwide, with a total of 650 metric sizes ranging from 1.5 mm to 195 mm in diameter. It has both an affordable price and a number of compelling technical properties: its entire load on various rotating or oscillating axles, even under various environmental conditions, such as exposure to dirt, dust or impact. There is a long service life in the range.
The new all-round bearing material iglidur G1 achieves the established goals of the German igus product, namely the enhancement of technical performance and the reduction of costs. German igus R&D personnel have reduced the wear rate at low loads (less than 5 MPa) to the previous quarter. According to the application parameters, the service life under heavy load is almost doubled. At the same time, this all-round bearing material can operate continuously at temperatures up to 180°C (maximum temperature of 130°C for iglidur G). René Achnitz, Head of Bearings at igus iglidur in Germany, said: “With this new bearing material, customers can reduce costs by around 40%, extend the service life of bearings, and gain iglidur's special material properties such as lubrication-free, lighter weight and Corrosion resistance.” The iglidur G1 was originally made as a cylindrical bearing and flanged bearing, offering 113 standard sizes. Now, the scope of supply of the size will be continuously expanded according to the needs of customers. Thanks to extensive testing in a 2,750-square meter test lab, customers can calculate and configure the iglidur G1 online and include all product families soon.
