Spline processing methods: Spline shafts can be processed in a variety of ways. It mostly uses cutting processing techniques like hobbing, milling, and grinding, but it may also use plastic deformation techniques like cold hammering and cold rolling.


1.Hobbing technique: The generating method is used to process the spline shaft milling machine or gear hobbing machine with the spline hob. This technology is suited for mass manufacturing because of its great productivity and accuracy.


2. Milling method: On a universal milling machine, directly mill the contour between teeth with a specific forming milling cutter, then divide the tooth by tooth using an indexing head. After milling tooth by tooth on both sides, trim the bottom diameter with a disc milling cutter. Milling is mostly utilized for processing spline shafts focused on the outside diameter in single-piece small batch manufacturing and roughing before hardening due to its poor productivity and precision.


3. Grinding method: Use a formed grinding wheel to grind the spline tooth side and bottom diameter on a spline shaft grinder, which is ideal for hardened spline shafts or spline shafts with greater accuracy requirements, particularly splines centered on the inner diameter. axis.


4. Cold play is performed using a specialized machine tool. With the indexing and rotating motion of the workpiece and the axial feed, the two heads positioned symmetrically on the outer side of the perimeter of the workpiece revolve at a constant speed ratio. The forming wheel on the head matches the cogging portion of the workpiece every time the workpiece rotates by 1 tooth. The surface of the workpiece is plastically deformed to create a spline after hammering once under the continuous hammering of the high-speed and high-energy action of the beating wheel. Cold hammering has a precision between milling and grinding, and its efficiency is around 5 times that of milling. Cold hammering can also help you get more out of your materials.
