This ring gear will be processed and sent as soon as possible
The starter ring gear is a component linked to an internal combustion engine that transmits torque from the starter motor to the engine crankshaft in order to start the engine. The starter ring gear is generally composed of medium carbon steel.
The starter ring gear is attached to the engine's flywheel or flexible plate. The teeth of the ring gear are powered by the starting motor's smaller gears (called pinions). Only during startup does the pinion connect with the starter ring, and once the engine is going, it retracts.
The most popular way to make a starter ring gear is to bend a length of square or rectangular steel bar into a circle and then weld the ends together. The inner and outer diameters of this ring gear are then machined to create smooth surfaces. The gear teeth are then produced with a hobbing tool, followed by chamfering, deburring, and cleaning operations.
Induction hardening is used to improve the surface hardness of teeth for abrasion resistance as well as the core strength of the tooth to withstand the bending pressures exerted during beginning. To minimize internal tensions and enhance the toughness of the teeth, this heat treatment is generally followed by tempering. At pitch circle diameter, the hardness is usually between 45 and 55 HRC.
