The friction wheels no longer contact each other when the shaft separation of this type of friction wheel increases, and they cease to operate as a friction wheel. In addition, the weary point, which is identical to points P1 and a, is assigned to point b, which then advances to points P2 and P3 to reach b'.
We just consider the sketched intersecting curve of aa' and bb'. aa' gets closer and closer to bb'. Furthermore, this contact point progresses from P1 to P2 and P3 with time. This moving line corresponds to the drive belt's extended line.
This curve is the tooth profile curve, and we become an involute curve when the two curve contact points roll and expand.
