Knowledge of Bearing preload

Aug 28, 2019

After the bearing is assembled and bolted, the bearing has no play and no preload in both radial and axial directions. The preload of the bearing is adjusted at the factory and no adjustment is required during the installation of the bearing. The larger the preload, the higher the bearing stiffness, but the higher the temperature rise and the friction torque at a certain speed, so the customer needs to provide the most detailed use conditions for us to adjust the bearing preload as a reference.

Temperature difference

The temperature difference between the shaft and the housing affects the radial preload of the bearing, which affects the overall bearing performance. If the temperature of the shaft is higher than the temperature of the bearing housing, the radial preload will increase proportionally, which will result in an increase in the rolling element load, increased bearing friction, and increased temperature.

If the temperature of the shaft is lower than the temperature of the housing, the radial preload will decrease proportionally, the bearing clearance will increase, the rigidity will decrease and the wear will increase.
